What Type Of Logo Do I Need?
There are three main types of logos: iconic, illustrative and typographic. If you're not sure what type of logo your business needs, consider the overall impact you're trying to create on the viewer.
Iconic Logos
These are the logos that either look fantastic, or look like they came out of a clip-art package when done by inexperienced designers. They generally have an abstract or simplified version of an image, along with text (though some larger or more notable companies remove the text, hence the "icon"). Iconic logos are ideal for more "serious" businesses, such as an insurance agency, a bank, or a contracting company.
Illustrative Logos
Illustrative logos usually combine a more detailed, more "cartoonish" or more true-to-life pictoral representation of the company. Generally used for restaurants, bars, entertainment and other less "serious" businesses because of their light-hearted, novel aura.
Typographic Logos
Popular in the entire spectrum of business types, typographic logos can be simple or very fancy, depending on the type of business and it's personality. They can be as simple as one particular typeface and color, or with visual treatments applied to draw attention or provoke a certain feeling.
