I suppose my love for print began when I was able to hold a Pantone Swatch Book without slobbering all over it. My grandfather, John Melson Pittman Jr. was the 4th generation of printers in the Pittman family, and I'm the 5th to proudly carry on the family tradition. "Pops" was my best buddy in the whole world, and every day when I came home from school, I'd spend countless hours next to him watching him type, measure, draw, and on special days, we went to Palmer's to pick up the print jobs. It was better than pizza day at school, to see all of the huge presses running and smell the ink and paper. Of course, the handful of Hershey Kisses certainly didn't hurt anything, either.
I took graphic design courses in high school, and my Graphic Design teacher, Ms. Goldsmith would always tell me that I was her star student, though it was more of a hobby to me - I didn't think I was very talented. But I often found myself obsessing over which typeface to use when composing English papers, then alerting classmates to their uneven margins and irrelevant placement of clip art... or more often, photoshopping superfluous eyeballs and animal parts onto photos of my friends. So I went to school with intentions of becoming a psychologist with a minor in sociology, intending to become a children's art therapist. By the time I finished, I knew I'd never be able to put away my obsession with Graphic Design and art, and indulged in my hidden passion.
Doing freelance jobs for a number of years led to an entry position with Fisherman's Post newspaper (based out of Wilmington, NC). I quickly progressed to Advertising Director, but grew homesick for my family and friends back in Raleigh. After serving a few years in the technical side of the computer industry, doing part-time freelancing for a few select clients, I moved over completely to the artistic side. SunSign Graphic Design was officially founded in 2006, and since it's first project came to life, my company has grown above and beyond my expectations... every day I wake up and look forward to helping my clients build and grow their business to above and beyond their wildest dreams.
